Veronika Šikulová (* 1967) wrote her proses while working as a journalist. She published her first works in the literary supplement of the daily Smena, in literary magazines and in the collection of young authors Druhý dych (Second breath, 1985). She made her book debut in 1997 with the prose collection Odtiene (Nuances). Since then, she has published more than a dozen books or texts for anthologies (e.g. Domček jedným ťahom (Drawing a House in One Line), Miesta v sieti (Places in the Net), Medzerový plod (A Gap Fruit), Petrichor and others), for which she has received several awards as well as gained popularity with the audience. She works at the Malokarpatská knižnica in Pezinok. She lives and creats in Modra.
Her latest novel Nedeľné popoludnie na ostrove La Grande Jatte (Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Slovart, 2025), set partly in France and partly in Slovakia, is an inventory of events, experiences, and a story about the protagonists’ relationship from their first mutual fascination through a series of separations and reunions to the time when both of them, in their advanced years, recapitulate their own lives and the bond between them.
