Silvester Lavrík (* 1964) is a prose writer, poet, playwright, screenwriter and lyricist. After graduating from the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, he worked as a teacher of Slovakian language and art. Later, he studied theatre directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and worked as a director of the Slovak Radio in Bratislava. As a playwright and director, he also cooperates with professional theaters in the Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine. He lives and works alternately in Bratislava and Bánovce nad Bebravou.
His books include Allegro barbaro (LCA, 2002), Ester and Albatros (under a penname Hana Naglik, JAGA, 2004; the Slovak Republic’s Ministry of Culture award for the most beautiful book of the year), Zlodeji (Thieves, LCA, 2005), Perokresba (Pen-and-ink Drawing, LCA, 2006; nominated for the Anasoft Litera award 2006), Villa Lola (LCA, 2004) and the monodrama Hry (Plays, Bratislava Theatre Institute, 2007). His debut novel was a story of a blind piano teacher with a criminal plot Zu (2011), which was among the finalists of the Anasoft Litera award. He has also written the historical novel Nedeľné šachy s Tisom (Sunday Chess with Tiso, Dixit, 2016) and the docu-novel Posledná barónka (The Last Baroness, 2019, Dixit and IRON LIBRI). His latest work is the novel Predpoveď na zajtra (A Forecast for Tomorrow, Dixit, 2024).
