Peter Milčák: Minimalism with an inner scream

Peter Milčák (* 1966) wrote the poetry collections Záprah pred zimou (the Load before Winter, 1989), Prípravná čiara 57/Preparation Line 57 (2005), Brum (2012), the literary monograph Postava a jej kompetencie v rozpravkovom textu (A character and its competence in a fairytale text, 2006) and the book of essays Mŕtve kvety medzi živými (Dead flowers amongst the living, 2017). He has compiled several anthologies of contemporary Slovakian poetry, which have been translated into several world languages. He translates from Polish (Z. Herbert, Cz. Miłosz, H. Poświatowska, B. Zadura, M. Świetlicki, W. Bonowicz, J. Bargielska) and from English (K. Patchen, A. Nowlan).

Since 1991, he has been running Modrý Peter publishing house, which focuses mainly on original and translations of poetry and prose, and works of literary criticism. He was nominated for the 2025 Zlatá vlna award for his collection Podoby milosti / Forms of Grace (Modrý Peter, 2024).
