Alena Brindová: A territory of touch

Alena Brindová is a Slovakian poetess, literary columnist and cultural worker. She completed mass media studies and literary studies at the Faculty of Arts of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. She has had short-term study stays at the Metropolitan University Prague and the Saint Petersburg State University, where she concentrated on English studies and Slavonic philology.

She made her debut with the poetry collection Horolezci (Mountain Climbers, 2022, FACE) and received the Ivan Krasko Prize for the best debut in the Slovakian language. Her second book of poetry is entitled Prekročenie frontovej línie (Crossing the Front Line, 2024, FACE). For both works, she was nominated for the Zlatá vlna literary prize for poetry (2023, 2025). Brindová’s poetics is characterized by sensitive observation of interpersonal relationships, layering of unconventional metaphors, intertextuality and borrowings from several foreign languages. In addition to creative writing, she occasionally writes literary and film reviews, essays, works for radio, she also moderates and interprets cultural events.
