Adania Shibli (عدنية شبلي) was born in Palestine in 1974. She is not only a writer but also a media and cultural studies scholar who has studied and taught in the UK and Palestine. She has written several novels and books of essays. In addition to her award-winning novels Masaas (2010, Touch, مساس) and Kulluna Ba'id bethat al Miqdar aan el-Hub (2012, We Are All Equally Far From Love, كلنا بعيد بذات المقدار عن الحب), she is particularly known for her novel Tafsílu thánawí (2017, The Subsidiary Detail, تفصيل ثانوي, to be published in Czech this year in a translation by Jitka Jeníková), which caused a scandal at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2023. Following this media attack, the author was supported by over a thousand leading writers and intellectuals, including Nobel laureates Annie Ernaux, Abdulrazak Gurnah and Olga Tokarczuk.
